You don’t have to give up your beauty routine for nine months. There are more conscious choices that can help you transition into caring for you + bub at the same time. Jo, our founder, and mother to Zhara (and soon to be baby number two!), sits down to discuss her simplified pregnancy routine. She also guides us through Zhara’s back to basics skincare that she has been on since she was 4 days old till now, plus some essential nappy bags items she cant live without

BODY
I suffer from eczema, so I don’t tend to play around with my body products as much, especially during pregnancy. My pre-pregnancy routine is the same as my pregnancy routine, Sans Ceuticals is my go-to.
HAIR
My hair sees the biggest changes throughout pregnancy and post-partum. I have lots of hair and grow even more during pregnancy. Everyone told me my hair would fall out once I had Zhara but I didn’t really notice. However, I did notice my eyelashes and eyebrows really thinned during my first pregnancy which was devastating as I love a loooong lash. Thankfully they have stayed in place this second time around, but my hair has changed as it did last time. It needs lots more hydration and extra shine products. I have recently changed to one of our newest brands, Innersense and ABSOLUTELY love the Shampoo and Conditioner, like L.O.V.E.
SKIN
My skin is always on the dehydrated side so this is always my main focus – even more so during pregnancy. I often sleep in hydration masks, the Odacite Deep Hydration Masque is my go-to. I focus mainly on oils, balms and hydration masks. And for everyone who knows me, knows MV Gentle Cream Cleanser is my absolute staple and all-time favourite product.
AM Routine
PM Routine
That’s it (I think). As you can tell I’m obsessed with hydration (thanks Melbourne). I will add to this as I move into my last trimester and/if any of my products change. We know everyone’s skin and pregnancy is so unique and requires individual consultation and consideration. Please feel free to reach out to me in-store if you have any questions about mine or your routine.
I’m super simple when it comes to Zhara’s products. I’m still using the same products on her now (she is 2) as I was when she was 4 days old. I’m a nightly bathing parent, so we use The Base Collective Baby Magnesium Hair & Body Wash.
I wash her hair every 2-3 days (depending where and what she has been into…). For her face I prefer the Pure Jojoba by MV Organics to cleanse her beautiful soft, porcelain like skin, using our TLO Organic Cotton Wash Cloths to remove. As she gets older her hair is now needing a conditioner (yep, she has my hair) so I just use a small amount of my Innersense Hydrating Cream Conditioner. After the bath ( and for nappy changes), I use Bondi Wash’s Baby Powder for her little toosh and The Base Collective’s Body Balm with Lavender and Magnesium–perfect before bedtime for a looooong night sleep ahead!

AM Routine
- Cleanser – MV Gentle Cream Cleanser
- Treatment – My favourite Hyaluronic Acid is Josh Rosebrook Hydration Boost Concentrate. The Manuka Honey soothes and calms my skin that can get red and dry during pregnancy. I would normally have a separate Vitamin C in my routine however I tend to drop activies when I’m pregnant as my skin becomes more sensitive.
- Oil – Odacite All-Embracing Watermelon & Hisbiscus Serum
- Balm / Cream – I’m loving the new 8 Faces Solid Oil – winter in Melbourne always wreaks havoc on my skin so this arrived just in time. I use it all over my face, including eyes (I’ve found my eye area to be dry during this pregnancy). Prior to this I was using Josh Rosebrook Vital Balm Cream and I still believe this should be a staple in everyone’s winter skincare cabinet. The key ingredient of Blue Tansy helps keep my skin calm, soft and intensely hydrated and protected during the day – now available essential oil free for those with these sensitivities, or if you’re avoiding during pregnancy.
- SPF – There is no question Josh Rosebrook Nutrient Day Cream SPF30 Tinted is the BEST SPF on the market. Love the texture, the dewy appearance on my skin. It layers really well over oils, balms, and I just love love love.
PM Routine
- Oil Cleanser – Agent Nateur Cleansing Face Oil
- Cleanser – MV Gentle Cream Cleanser
- Oil – Odacite All-Embracing Watermelon & Hisbiscus Serum
- Night Cream/ Hydration Mask – It’s no secret I use hydration masks as my night cream…my long time go-to is the Odacite Deep Hydration Masque. I have recently started using Odacite’s new Crème de la Nuit with Vitamin C + Ashwagandha, and is definitely my new favourite PM product (although ByNacht’s Nocturnal Moisturiser is a very close second).
